Rubicone Sangiovese IGP Emilia Romagna
«An ideal companion to meat dishes or pasta with meat sauces. It also perfectly rounds off a good meal alongside spicy cheese.»Serving suggestion, Pieroth catalogue
Romagna is not only the region most associated with pleasure, but also a centre of the dolce vita. The Rubicone is a historic river that flows through a large part of Romagna and empties into the Adriatic near Ravenna. It became famous through Caesar's crossing of the Rubicon in 49 BC – tantamount to a declaration of war on the Roman Senate, and his famous words “alea iacta est”.
Sangiovese is the typical grape of central Italy. Although in Romagna this grape tends to produce lighter red wines than in neighbouring Tuscany, here a wine has been created that unites both characteristics: dark, powerful and high in alcohol, with a structure leaning more towards Tuscany, yet at the same time very soft, round and fruity.
Characteristics
Dark red, well structured, yet soft and round. On the nose and palate, sweet aromas of red fruits and a hint of chocolate.
Serving suggestion
An ideal companion to meat dishes or pasta with meat sauces. It also perfectly rounds off a good meal alongside spicy cheese.
