Privacy policy

Pieroth S.A.

As of: 22 September 2026

In this Privacy Policy, we inform you how we (Pieroth SA) collect and process personal data (data that identifies you directly or indirectly).

We, the operator of pieroth-weine.ch, direct our website and the offers and information it contains only to persons over 18 years of age in Switzerland, and explicitly not to persons located outside Switzerland. Where our website offers the option of entering personal data (email addresses, names, addresses, phone numbers), the user provides such data on an expressly voluntary basis.

Below we explain which of your data we store and when, and how we ensure secure transmission of your data. Personal data is used in accordance with the applicable data protection provisions.

I. Personal data and its use

Personal data is information that can be used to establish someone's identity. This includes information such as a person's real name, address, postal address and phone number. In principle, our online offering can be used without disclosing your identity. If you decide to register, i.e. sign up as a registered customer, you can, provided we offer the relevant services, place new orders at any time, view current or completed orders, and similar. We aim to collect as little personal data as possible for use of the offering. In connection with access to our pages, data is stored on the server side (for example, IP address, date, time and pages viewed). No personal use is made of this data. We reserve the right to carry out statistical analysis of anonymised data sets. In addition, we use personal data for purposes of the technical administration of the website and for customer management only to the extent required in each case. Beyond that, personal data is stored only if it is provided voluntarily.

If you provide us with personal data in order to request a wine tasting, place an order, submit a job application, sign up for the Pieroth newsletter, take part in a competition, or make a general enquiry, or if we receive your personal data from companies you have been in contact with or from publicly accessible sources, we use this data for its intended purpose on the basis of current and applicable data protection legislation and pass it on – to the extent necessary for processing – to your wine advisor or to service providers engaged by us.

In addition, we, your wine advisor and the service providers engaged by us use your address, phone number and email address to inform you about further products from our company.

So that we can better tailor our service to your needs, we use the data obtained from the order process for purposes of internal market research. Where applicable, we use and pass on listed address data for marketing purposes to our group and partner companies. Like many other companies, we carry out creditworthiness checks. In certain cases, we pass on data (name, address and, where applicable, date of birth) for the purpose of a creditworthiness check, or we inspect debt collection register extracts for this purpose. We also occasionally process name and address to send advertising information by post or electronically about new products and services from us or our partner companies. Our legitimate interest is to present you with new offerings from us and our partner companies.

We need your personal data for various business transactions. To prevent it from falling into the wrong hands, we encrypt your personal data using the SSL procedure (Secure Socket Layer procedure). This is a proven and highly secure data transmission procedure on the internet.

We do not request personal data from children, do not collect such data, and do not pass it on to third parties.

II. Use of cookies

Cookies are data records that are sent from the web server to the user's web browser and stored there for later retrieval. We use cookies only for the purpose of obtaining information about the use of our homepage and for statistical purposes and to measure our online advertising. The data records do not contain any personal information. No combination with any personal data you provide takes place. You can prevent the installation of cookies through a corresponding setting in your browser software.

Shopify

We use the platform of Shopify International Limited, Victoria Buildings, 2nd Floor, 1-2 Haddington Road, Dublin 4, D04 XN32, Ireland ("Shopify") as our shop system. When you place an order in our shop, you agree to the storage and processing of your personal data by Shopify. As part of the aforementioned Shopify services, data may also be transferred, as part of further processing on our behalf, to Shopify Inc., 150 Elgin St, Ottawa, ON K2P 1L4, Canada, Shopify Data Processing (USA) Inc., Shopify Payments (USA) Inc. or Shopify (USA) Inc. This storage and processing of data serves the purpose of supporting and processing your orders, authenticating you, handling payment transactions and improving Shopify's services. In the case of data transfers to Shopify Inc. in Canada, the appropriate level of data protection is ensured by an adequacy decision of the European Commission. Further information on Shopify's terms of use and data protection can be found at https://www.shopify.de/legal/datenschutz.

Google Analytics 4

We use Google Analytics 4 on this website, a web analytics service provided by Google Ireland Limited, Gordon House, Barrow Street, Dublin 4, Ireland ("Google"). Processing is based on our legitimate interest in analysing and improving our online offering. Google Analytics 4 uses truncated IP addresses by default; the e-commerce events transmitted via the Shopify Google channel (e.g. product view, cart, order) contain no names or contact details. You can prevent collection by Google Analytics by installing the opt-out browser add-on (https://tools.google.com/dlpage/gaoptout) or by blocking third-party cookies in your browser.

Nature and purpose of the processing

Google Analytics uses cookies that enable an analysis of your use of our website. The information collected by the cookies about your use of this website is generally transferred to a Google server in the USA and stored there.

With Google Analytics 4, IP anonymisation is activated by default. Because of IP anonymisation, your IP address is shortened by Google within member states of the European Union or in other contracting states of the Agreement on the European Economic Area. Only in exceptional cases is the full IP address transferred to a Google server in the USA and shortened there. According to Google, the IP address transmitted by your browser as part of Google Analytics is not merged with other Google data. During your visit to the website, your user behaviour is recorded in the form of "events". Events can include:

  • Page views
  • First visit to the website
  • Session start
  • Pages visited
  • Your "click path", interaction with the website
  • Scrolls (whenever a user scrolls to the end of the page (90%))
  • Clicks on external links
  • Internal search queries
  • Interaction with videos
  • File downloads
  • Ads viewed / clicked
  • Language setting

The following is also recorded:

  • Your approximate location (region)
  • Date and time of the visit
  • Your IP address (in shortened form)
  • technical information about your browser and the devices you use (e.g. language setting, screen resolution)
  • Your internet service provider
  • the referrer URL (which website / advertising medium you came to this website from)

Purposes of the processing

On behalf of the operator of this website, Google will use this information to evaluate your pseudonymous use of the website and to compile reports on website activity. The reports provided by Google Analytics serve to analyse the performance of our website and the success of our marketing campaigns.

Recipients

Recipients of the data are/may be:

  • Google Ireland Limited, Gordon House, Barrow Street, Dublin 4, Ireland (as processor pursuant to Art. 28 GDPR)
  • Google LLC, 1600 Amphitheatre Parkway Mountain View, CA 94043, USA
  • Alphabet Inc., 1600 Amphitheatre Parkway Mountain View, CA 94043, USA

Third-country transfer

For the USA, the European Commission adopted its adequacy decision on 10 July 2023. Google LLC is certified under the EU-US Data Privacy Framework. Since Google's servers are distributed worldwide and a transfer to third countries (for example, Singapore) cannot be completely ruled out, we have also concluded the EU Standard Contractual Clauses with the provider.

Storage period

Data sent by us and linked to cookies is automatically deleted after 2 months. The maximum lifetime of the Google Analytics cookies is 2 years. Deletion of data whose retention period has been reached takes place automatically once a month.

Legal basis

The legal basis for this data processing is your consent pursuant to Art. 6(1) sentence 1 lit. a GDPR and Section 25(1) sentence 1 TTDSG.

Withdrawal

You can withdraw your consent at any time with future effect by accessing the cookie settings and changing your selection there. This does not affect the lawfulness of the processing carried out on the basis of consent up to the point of withdrawal.

You can also prevent the storage of cookies from the outset by setting your browser software accordingly. However, if you configure your browser to reject all cookies, this may restrict functionality on this and other websites. You can also prevent Google from collecting the data generated by the cookie and relating to your use of the website (including your IP address) and from processing that data by

Further information on Google Analytics' terms of use and on data protection at Google can be found at https://marketingplatform.google.com/about/analytics/terms/de/ and at https://policies.google.com/?hl=de.

Microsoft Clarity

We use Microsoft Clarity, a service of Microsoft Corporation, One Microsoft Way, Redmond, WA 98052, USA ("Microsoft"), to better understand how visitors use our website. Clarity creates anonymised heatmaps (e.g. click and scroll behaviour) and records browsing sessions (mouse movements, clicks, scrolling, pages visited). Input in form fields as well as payment and address data are masked automatically and are not recorded. Clarity sets cookies (including "_clck", "_clsk") with a lifetime of up to one year and processes your truncated IP address and device and browser information; processing in the USA is possible. Processing is based on our legitimate interest in improving the usability of our website. You can prevent recording by blocking third-party cookies in your browser or by using a content blocker. Further information: https://privacy.microsoft.com/en-gb/privacystatement.

III. Social networks

Meta Pixel and Conversions API (Facebook/Instagram)

We use the Meta Pixel and the Conversions API of Meta Platforms Ireland Ltd., Merrion Road, Dublin 4, Ireland ("Meta") on this website to measure the effectiveness of our advertising on Facebook and Instagram and to target our ads. The Meta Pixel is a piece of code executed in your browser that transmits information about your use of our website to Meta (e.g. product pages viewed, cart, purchase). In addition, we transmit the same events directly from our shop system (Shopify) to Meta via the Conversions API; contact data such as e-mail address, name or telephone number are transmitted exclusively in encrypted (hashed) form to enable matching with your Meta account ("advanced matching"). Meta may link this data to your Facebook or Instagram account and use it for its own advertising purposes; transfer to the USA is possible. Processing is based on our legitimate interest in measuring and optimising our advertising. You can object in your Facebook settings under "Activity off Meta technologies" (https://www.facebook.com/off_facebook_activity). Further information is available in Meta's privacy policy: https://www.facebook.com/privacy/policy.

Facebook

For the information service offered here, the website pieroth-weine.ch relies on the technical platform and services of Facebook Ireland Ltd., 4 Grand Canal Square Grand Canal Harbour, Dublin 2, Ireland.

Please note that you use this Facebook page and its features at your own responsibility. This applies in particular to the use of interactive features (e.g. commenting, sharing, rating). Alternatively, you can also access the information offered via this page on our website at pieroth-weine.ch.

When you visit our Facebook page, Facebook collects, among other things, your IP address and other information present in the form of cookies on your PC. This information is used to provide us, as operator of the Facebook page, with statistical information about the use of the Facebook page.

Facebook provides further information on this at the following link: http://de-de.facebook.com/help/pages/insights.

The data collected about you in this context is processed by Facebook Ltd. and may in doing so be transferred to countries outside Switzerland or the European Union. Facebook describes in general terms, in its data use policy, what information it receives and how it is used. There you will also find information on how to contact Facebook and on the settings available for advertisements.

The data use policy is available at the following link: http://de-de.facebook.com/about/privacy

The complete Facebook data policy can be found here: https://de-de.facebook.com/full_data_use_policy

The way in which Facebook uses the data from visits to Facebook pages for its own purposes, the extent to which activities on the Facebook page are attributed to individual users, how long Facebook stores this data, and whether data from a visit to the Facebook page is passed on to third parties, is not conclusively and clearly stated by Facebook and is not known to us. When you access a Facebook page, the IP address assigned to your device is transmitted to Facebook. According to Facebook, this IP address is generally anonymised and deleted after 90 days. Facebook also stores information about the devices of its users (e.g. as part of the "login notification" feature); Facebook may therefore be able to match IP addresses to individual users. If you are currently logged in to Facebook as a user, a cookie containing your Facebook ID is present on your device. This enables Facebook to trace that you have visited this page and how you used it. This also applies to all other Facebook pages. Via Facebook buttons embedded in websites, Facebook can record your visits to those websites and match them to your Facebook profile. Based on this data, content or advertising tailored to you can be offered. If you wish to avoid this, you should log out of Facebook, or deactivate the "stay logged in" feature, delete the cookies present on your device, and close and restart your browser. This deletes Facebook information that would directly identify you. This allows you to use our Facebook page without your Facebook ID being disclosed. If you access interactive features of the page (like, comment, share, message, etc.), a Facebook login screen appears. After any such login, you are again recognisable to Facebook as a specific user.

Information on how you can manage or delete information held about you can be found on the following Facebook support pages: https://de-de.facebook.com/about/privacy

As provider of the information service, we do not otherwise collect or process any data from your use of our service. This Privacy Policy can be found, in its current version, under the "Privacy" section of our Facebook page.

Further information can be found in Instagram's privacy policy: https://instagram.com/about/legal/privacy

For the consistent display of fonts, this page uses what are known as web fonts, provided by Google. When you call up a page, your browser loads the required web fonts into its browser cache in order to display text and fonts correctly. For this purpose, the browser you use must connect to Google's servers. This lets Google know that our website was accessed via your IP address. The use of Google Web Fonts serves the interest of a consistent and attractive presentation of our website. This constitutes a legitimate interest.

If your browser does not support web fonts, a standard font from your computer is used. Google's privacy policy can be found here: https://policies.google.com/privacy?hl=de.
