Nerone Vino Rosso d'Italia
The ideal middle ground between Ripasso and Amarone – an insider tip. This wine embodies an entirely new generation of southern Italian wines. Very opulent, yet quite different from Bordeaux, Spain or northern Italy, oak notes play virtually no role.
The grapes come from selected vineyards in Salento, harvested only once they have partly dried on the vine. After the grape clusters are cut from the shoots, they are left among the vine leaves to dry (appassimento on vines) for around 20 days. During this process, they lose up to 50% of their water content. This produces, much as with the great Amarone, the characteristic notes of ripe fruit such as plums and raisins. Four months of ageing in oak casks gives it the final polish.
Characteristics
On the palate it is generous and opulent, with a beautifully integrated tannin structure and a wonderfully creamy texture. This extraordinary wine is a must-try!
