Lunissa DOCG Piedmont, Roero Arneis
«Whether with fish, pasta with lemon, or simply on its own on the terrace – well chilled, it unfolds its special character.»Serving suggestion, Pieroth catalogue
In the hills of the Roero, they say: if a boy is an “Arneis”, he's wild. A free spirit. One who goes his own way. This is how the nickname of this ancient grape variety came about: Arneis, the rebellious white wine of Piedmont. Once ignored, hard to tame, low-yielding – and yet full of character. It used to be planted only to distract birds from the precious Nebbiolo.
But in the 1970s, a few unwavering winemakers gave it a second chance. The result: a surprisingly elegant, expressive wine with depth. LUNISSA combines this story with the magic of nature – as an Antissà wine, which ripens earlier than others, it was harvested this year precisely on a full-moon night. A tribute to “Luna” and to everyone who swims against the current.
Characteristics
Pale gold in the glass, Lunissa is fragrant with white blossom, wild herbs and yellow-fleshed fruit. On the palate it shows elegant and clear, with a fine freshness and a hint of rebellion. Arneis, long underestimated, surprises here with depth, lightness and a personality that refuses to be tamed.
