Dedicated to peace and tradition, this outstanding wine was created under the name Augustus, in homage to the famous Roman emperor. He is also known as the “emperor of peace”, since under him began the longest period of peace – over 200 years, the Pax Augusta.
What makes it special: as was traditional in the Roman Empire, it too matures in amphorae. Clay amphorae are porous and therefore permeable to air – like wooden barrels, they allow micro-oxidation, but impart almost no flavours of their own to the wine. A blend of 70% Sangiovese and 30% Cabernet Sauvignon.
Characteristics
On the nose, ripe notes of blueberries and blackberries combined with chocolate, vanilla and spice. Beautifully concentrated with firm yet rounded tannins and expressive notes such as violet, black cherry and liquorice on the palate. A long, full finish.
