Principe di Mongibello DOP Sicilia Riserva
- Italy · Sicily
- Nero d´Avola
- dry
- 13.5 % vol.
- 16 - 18 °C
The wine's name combines the local name for Mount Etna in Sicily, “Mongibello”, with the local name for the Nero d'Avola grape variety, also known in Sicily as “Principe Siciliano” (Sicilian prince). The back label features an excerpt from the piece “Damigella tutta bella” by Claudio Monteverdi. The Riserva matured for 24 months in oak casks.Nero d'Avola is Sicily's traditional and currently most important grape variety. Depending on area, soil, climate and ageing, the wine shows different expressions. Alongside dark berry notes, slightly resinous notes are also typical.
Character
Powerful, radiant ruby red. A very fragrant, appealing nose of ripe cherries, plums and raspberries. On the palate, very polished from entry through to mid-palate, very fine-grained, with plenty of drive and a long finish. A well-balanced, elegant wine.
Pairs with
The Nero d'Avola will taste best paired with mature cheese, all kinds of meats and cured sausages, a hearty cheese pizza and, of course, Italian specialities such as brasato.
