A wine for special occasions that delights both experienced wine connoisseurs and friends of expressive, structured red wines.»Serving suggestion, Pieroth catalogue
In 1804, Napoleon had a magnificent tiara made for Pope Pius VII, which he presented to him for his own coronation. This tiara was exceptionally heavy – over 8 kilograms – and therefore too heavy to wear (Trop Lourd). The unusual design was seen as a political show of power: a gift that was at the same time a humiliation. With it, Napoleon wanted to symbolise his superiority over the Church. This scene was depicted in the painting Le Sacre de Napoléon by Jacques-Louis David. Napoleon's tiara adorns the top of the Trop Lourd label, celebrating a piece of French history.
Characteristics
This powerful Bordeaux red wine from the 2023 vintage combines the classic blending grapes Merlot, Cabernet Sauvignon, Malbec and Cabernet Franc. In the glass it shows a deep, dark ruby red with violet reflections. On the nose, a multi-layered bouquet of blackberry and blackcurrant unfolds, along with fine roasted notes of vanilla, cedarwood and mocha – an expression of the subtle oak ageing. On the palate it presents a powerful body, velvety tannins and balanced acidity. The dense fruit aromas are accompanied by fine spice and an elegant oak note. The combination of grape varieties provides depth, structure and ageing potential. The finish is long and harmonious, with echoes of dark chocolate and ripe plum.
