Primitivo Capolavoro IGP Salento
«Traditionally, this wine goes wonderfully with pasta, especially with vegetables. It also perfects pizza and Mediterranean meat dishes of any kind, or turns a piquant hard cheese into a special treat.»Serving suggestion, Pieroth catalogue
Salento is the name of a peninsula 100 km long and 40 km wide at the far south-eastern tip of Italy, often referred to as the “heel” of the Italian “boot”. This is where our new Primitivo “Capolavoro” — the “masterpiece” — comes from. As the younger sibling of our Capo dei Capi, it combines Italy’s masterly winemaking craft with the qualities of this magnificent terroir.
The name comes from the Latin “primativus”, meaning “the early ripener”. This is what a botanist called the grape when he discovered it in southern Italy in 1799. Its stronghold lies in Apulia.
Characteristics
Ruby red, with a scent of plums, cherries, coffee and vanilla, it shows dry on the palate with harmoniously integrated acidity. A light sweetness can be detected in the long-lasting finish.
Serving suggestion
