Pinotage Western Cape - South Africa
«This fruit-forward red is the ideal companion for your barbecue season. It also cuts a fine figure as a classic “terrace wine”. Pasta and pizza are, without question, happy partners too.»Serving suggestion, Pieroth catalogue
South Africa, the wine country – hardly any other country on earth is so diverse. Winegrowing arrived in the Western Cape province around 350 years ago. Even then, wines of world renown were produced there, and they remain highly prized to this day. The proximity to the coast, with its cool ocean currents, has a positive influence on grape development and ensures a temperate, maritime climate.
Pinotage, South Africa's “secret weapon”, is an indigenous, home-grown variety. It was created in South Africa by crossing Pinot Noir with Cinsaut (also known in France as Hermitage).
Characteristics
Ruby-red reflections and a primary aroma mix of very spicy, almost ethereal notes of pine bark and cedarwood together with sweet cherry. On the palate, dark berry fruits join in exclusively. Soft, well-balanced tannins make it wonderfully harmonious, soft and round.
