Pinot Grigio Piccolomini DOP Veneto
«This wine is just as good an accompaniment to an aperitif as it is to poultry and fish dishes, antipasti, or light grilled fare in summer.»Serving suggestion, Pieroth catalogue
Grape variety
In the northern Italian regions of Friuli and Veneto, Pinot Grigio is one of the most important grape varieties. Thanks to the Dolomites, the soils here are particularly calcareous, lending the wine a mineral character. A greyish veil covers the dark skin of this grape. The colour designation “grigio” (grey) refers to a pigment variation, since the berries range from lighter to darker in colour.
Characteristics
A characterful wine with finesse. With citrus and floral notes plus a subtle spiciness on the nose, it shows on the palate notes of yellow fruit such as apricot, pear and quince. This is joined by a fresh acidity with a delicate creamy texture in the finish. A herald of spring – simply harmonious, fruity and fresh.
Serving suggestion
This wine is just as good an accompaniment to an aperitif as it is to poultry and fish dishes, antipasti, or light grilled fare in summer.
