Il Campione Riserva DOP Montepulciano d'Abruzzo
«A wine that pairs especially well with red meat, roast lamb or mature cheese.»Serving suggestion, Pieroth catalogue
With the 2,914-metre Gran Sasso d'Italia towering mightily over L'Aquila, the capital of Abruzzo, the Apennines reach their highest point. Only closer to the sea, along the Pescara river, do the mountains gradually flatten out. Here, affection for red Montepulciano, the region's most important grape variety, reigns supreme. It is particularly here that this vine yields powerful wines of great style and refinement – like this one, which has matured for more than 12 months in barrique barrels.
Characteristics
The aromatic bouquet hints at red fruits such as cherries, raspberries and plums, along with spice. This wine also has a soft, enveloping flavour and presents itself in the glass in a beautiful ruby red with garnet shadings. Harmoniously rounded off and elegant in the finish.
Serving suggestion
A wine that pairs especially well with red meat, roast lamb or mature cheese.
