Grand Augustin AOP Saint-Émilion Grand Cru
«An excellent companion to grilled lamb and beef, or to chocolate desserts.»Serving suggestion, Pieroth catalogue
Wine has been grown in Saint-Émilion since the time of Roman rule. The town itself was founded in the 8th century by a hermit of the same name and was an important staging post for pilgrims on the Way of St James to Santiago de Compostela.
Today the appellation covers around 5,700 hectares of vineyards, of which some 2,800 hectares are classified as Grand Cru. Together with Pomerol, Saint-Émilion forms the core area of the “Right Bank” of the Gironde and the Dordogne. For the Saint-Émilion Grand Cru appellation, the wines must undergo a second, more demanding quality assessment before bottling.
Characteristics
This wine has a deep red colour. Its fresh bouquet of black cherries leaves you wanting more. On the palate, an intense mocha note with sweet spices and elegantly integrated tannins. The finish bursts with notes of black cherry, subtly touched by a hint of vanilla.
Serving suggestion
An excellent companion to grilled lamb and beef, or to chocolate desserts.
